Star Trek Role-Playing Game

(Decipher Version)

Decipher is better known for their collectible card games (CCGs) - they published the Star Trek and Lord of the Rings CCGs as well as the 'CODA' versions of the RPGs for those universes. Both games went out of print in December of 2007.

The CODA system is sort of a cross between the 2d6 & skill driven system pioneered by Traveller (Mark Miller was a consultant for the creation of this game) and the D20 system used by D&D (the CODA system uses classes and class abilities as well as skills).

The CODA system plays a lot like Traveller - which is one of the reasons I like it. Traveller is very smooth and CODA has the same quality. It's starship combat system is a little clunky but like all RPGs it is modular - you can discard the starship system in favor of a miniatures game like Star Fleet Battles or Victory By Any Means or Full Thrust. Personally, I use the Star Fleet Battles/Federation Commander game system.
