Settrians
Physiology and Appearance: Settrians are thought to be a “Preserver” species. They are similar in structure and size to most humanoids. The main differences are a strong brow ridge that runs back to just above the ears, and an overdeveloped cranium. They are hairless and their skin tone is a deep yellow, almost golden, color. They reproduce sexually in the same fashion as most humanoids. Their large eyes are marked by square pupils (often red or orange) and irises. Homeworld: Settria II, an M-class world in the Interstellar Confederacy. History and Culture: Settrian society is comparable in age to that of humans. They have had two distinct eras: pre-Fall and Reconstruction. The pre-Fall era, ending roughly 2000 years ago, saw Settria rise to a level of industrialization comparable to pre-World War III Earth. A collapse of civilization followed a global war that nearly destroyed the ecosphere. The Reconstruction era saw a rapid recovery of technology and an interest in space travel. The Settrians contacted the Chelonians, the Acelaphans, the Seraptians, and Carminians. Their openness and tolerant nature quickly lead to ties and eventual union in the Interstellar Confederacy. Settrians are capitalists and individualists who view freedom and civilization as intrinsically connected to personal property, individual sovereignty and non-coercion. They view the more collectivist approach to society practiced by their neighbors to be oppressive and not entirely sane. Additionally, while most Settrians possess only latent psionic ability, about 5% of births among them are psychically linked triplets. These Triads, as they are known, are in constant contact with one another and what is known to one is known to all within minutes. Each member of the Triad maintains their own individuality but has the collective experience of all three members. Many ISC captains are Settrian Triads, since one can be on the bridge, another inspecting the ship and the third eating or resting. It is like having the same officer on duty at all times. Many leadership positions within the ISC are filled by Settrians who tend to dominate the political class within the Confederacy's government. Language and Names: Settrian and Interstellar Confederacy Basic Favored Profession: Starship Officer, Merchant or Diplomat. Species Adjustments: +1 Presence. Species AbilitiesEnlightened Self-Interest: Settrians believe in the idea of enlightened self-interest almost to the point of religion. As a result they gain +1 Savvy, as well as a +1 bonus to Inquire, Enterprise (Business), and Enterprise (Streetwise) tests. Skilled: Settrians seem to have a broad range of experiences which they can draw upon. During the personal development step when creating the character’s background (see PG, Ch.5: Development), Settrians gain extra skill picks. After choosing a package and picking skills, Settrians can add +2 skill levels to any one skill, or +1 to two skills. |
