History of Starbase 10As Starbase 10 approaches its seventeenth anniversary, I want to thank all of the folks who sent me such wonderful encouragement and praise over the last few months. There are many exciting developments coming down the pike. Amarillo Design Bureau has released several new versions of the Star Trek Role-Playing game - based on a variety of popular Role-Playing Game Engines (which will hopefully remain in print). I have had the opportunity to look over this latest effort and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. As the amount of material I have for Star Trek Role-playing as increased, my available webspace has not. As a result, I have set up a dedicated domain for this site at Starbase10.com Starbase 10 is strictly a hobby project for me I am a long time fan of Star Trek: The Role Playing Game, and I ran a game in as an undergrad and post-graduate student in college for 6 years (1983-1988). The information presented on these pages is almost exclusively out of my own game masters notes from that campaign. The officers and crews of the USS Excalibur and the USS Courageous saw many varied adventures in those six years and acquitted themselves always in the highest traditions of the fleet. This site is dedicated to Steven "Smitty" Smith, Jennifer Paperman, Chris Corsi, Paula Corsi, Joe Leonard, Andrew Gelbman, Nicholas "Jason" Bauer, David Steinberg, Andrew Nunberg, and Denise. Also included here is scads of material for Starship Combat Simulator and Star Fleet Battles. One of the main criticisms of SFB and games like it is that it is a wargame and emphasizes the military aspects of Star Fleet operations to the detriment of everything else. By including some of the more canonical ships as well as the missing canonical races, and providing role-playing rules for GURPS, Traveller and additions for Star Trek: The Role-Playing Game, gamers might find the means to game out any situation in the Star Trek Universe. What Else is New? Well for starters, we have our own domain name. This site used to reside at starbase_10.tripod.com, however, that site hadn't been updated since 1999 and I have redirected it to here (starbase10.com). I have expanded the background material (especially the timeline). I have also posted the material generated from my college (1983-1989) campaign. A shout-out to Captain Antonia Peres and the crew of the USS Courageous. I am gearing up for a new campaign (provided I can recruit some players) for a sequel to the Courageous campaign. This campaign will take place between 2290-2350 (between the classic Trek movies and the Next Generation series). I have also revamped the look of the site to use the new LCARS look. In addition, I've added a boat-load of background material developed over years of gaming the Star Trek universe. The newest feature is the Character Archive. No stats will be provided (you can apply the mechanics of whatever game you play) but their backgrounds will be posted and it should be easy to see what skills should be possessed by these characters. Enjoy the site and as always, your comments are welcome. This page is under constant construction and will remain so until a) I run out of ideas b) the Old Ones come c) my PC implodes d) I run out of server space or e) my wife makes good on her threat to throw my PC in the Hudson River ;-) |
